Ventures Into The Sub-Sonic Underworld…

Welcome
“Brothers and Sisters of the Sonic Underworld”! I’ve thought for some time as to what I could give back to the Bass Community in the way of knowledge and experience gained through the years as a Bassist/Musician residing on this planet… Then the idea came to me that, maybe, this can be a place where I can share my concepts from Improvisational Creativity to “Getting it right on the Gig”. I love to teach! This will be aimed primarily at beginners and early intermediate bassists. Maybe an idea might grab a vintage player, if so, cool. My main aim is to open a few doors into the “Realm of Bassdom”! No reading here, just concepts. So, “Lords of the Underworld”, here goes! Hope you can take something with you… Peace out… Sir Charles

Morning Fingers
Posted on August 24, 2019 by Sir Charles E. Williamson
When you touch your Bass for the first time on a new day, your fingers need to “wake up”, hench the term, “Morning Fingers”. It’s similar to the “inbetween time” from when you wake up until the time you feel “funtionable”. It’s the same vibe, but on a more focused part of your body, your hands. They must stretch, move, and do a couple of laps around the fretboard before you start to do more focused machanical work. One way to approach this is to grab your Bass and just start playing. Take five to ten minutes on this as it is only intended to get the fingers warmed up and moving. A bit of “Brain Syncing” so to speak… Let this be your free time to explore. If you fall upon an idea, a riff, or something that’s begging for your creative attention, by all means, go for it and have fun. You will still be “opening up” your hands. Your “work” can start in your next session when you want to nail that bassline. When you take your break and return, your fingers will be ready to execute! Peace out from the Sonic Underworld…
